This easy white turkey chili recipe is pure comfort in a bowl. And, it happens to be packed with nutrient-rich ingredients and makes great leftover turkey chili! Plus, you can make this healthy white turkey chili in as little as 30 minutes. Win-win!

My family loves it when I make a batch of paleo turkey chili because the house smells amazing! Even better when we spend a cold day outside and come in for a hearty bowl of white turkey chili. Roasted turkey in a broth of seasonings, peppers, onions and green chiles is just what we need for a healthy dinner.

My inspiration for this turkey chili soup was leftover Thanksgiving dinner! We wanted something with a little bit of spice and tons of flavor. This white turkey chili recipe was a winner all around. It’s my favorite way to use up leftover turkey.

Now just because I have a special place in my heart for leftover turkey, doesn’t mean you can’t go out to the grocery store and grab some turkey and make this delicious, hearty chili tonight. The last time I made this healthy white turkey chili recipe at home, I didn’t have any leftover turkey sitting around, so I roasted a turkey breast in the oven. You could also find it already roasted at the grocery store, or you could use rotisserie chicken in a pinch.

How To Make Paleo Turkey Chili

Over medium-high heat, saute onions and peppers in a large soup pot. When the veggies start to soften, add in the spices and cook for 1 minute until it becomes fragrant.

Add in green chiles and vegetable broth. Bring to a boil, then simmer and cover for ten minutes.

Pour in the almond milk and potato starch, if you choose to use it. Stir to combine.

PRO TIP: The potato starch is a resistant starch (meaning it doesn’t spike blood sugar too much) and helps to thicken the soup, but it’s optional. If you like your soup extra thick, you could use a little bit more potato starch, but I wouldn’t go crazy. Start with a teaspoon at a time and adjust until it reaches your desired consistency. If you want low carb white turkey chili, simply skip the potato starch.

Stir in shredded roasted turkey and cook for an additional 5 minutes. Then add to serving bowls, toss on some toppings and enjoy!

Toppings For Healthy White Turkey Chili

Speaking of toppings, here are a few ideas that you can top this homemade turkey chili with:

  • Avocado – Adding avocado gives the soup an extra creaminess.
  • Red Onions – Dice up a few red onions and sprinkle on top of the soup for an extra kick of flavor.
  • Jalapenos – Diced or sliced jalapenos will go perfectly with paleo white turkey chili.
  • Tomato – Ripe fresh chopped tomatoes are always good as a topping for soup!
  • Green Peppers – I love the crunch of the fresh green peppers.
  • Pico de Gallo – My Pico de Gallo recipe is delicious and enhances the flavors of the turkey chili soup.

Can I Use Ground Turkey In Paleo Turkey Chili?

Yes, you can use ground turkey in this paleo turkey chili recipe. Instead of using roasted turkey, you will need to brown the ground turkey on the stove. The texture and flavors will be a little different using ground turkey, but will still taste great.

It’s always nice to use the ingredients you have on hand, so if you have ground turkey and no roasted turkey, then make the swap.

Can I Make Healthy White Turkey Chili In The Slow Cooker?

Yes, you can make this healthy white turkey chili recipe in the slow cooker. Saute the onions and peppers as instructed on the stove, then add all the ingredients to the slow cooker. Cook on low 4-6 hours.

This recipe is so easy on the stove top, but sometimes using a slow cooker is helpful if you are feeding a crowd or are making an extra large batch. And, cooking the best white turkey chili recipe in the Crock Pot will also allow the seasonings to meld together even more.

How Long Does Easy White Turkey Chili Last In The Fridge?

Typically this easy white turkey chili recipe will last approximately 3-4 days in the fridge. Store the leftover turkey chili in an airtight container. I prefer glass containers with lids. Not only is clean-up a breeze, but you can also store it individual containers for a quick and easy lunch idea.

TIP: Make this healthy white turkey chili recipe for our weekly meal prep! If you store the turkey chili in a glass bowl, then you can quickly microwave it right in the container too.

Can You Freeze Leftover Turkey Chili?

Yes, you can freeze leftover turkey chili. Always store turkey chili soup in airtight containers, such as glass, plastic or freezer bags. If you save in a freezer bag, lay flat then after it is frozen solid you can stand it up to make room in the freezer.

To defrost, it’s best if you place the white turkey chili in the refrigerator overnight, then reheat in a pot on the stove or microwave.

TIP: If you heat the turkey chili on the stove top, use low-medium heat, so that it doesn’t heat up too fast and dry out the turkey.
